Robert O Sterling
Robert Owen Sterling, Sr., 90, of Marysville, died Tuesday, January 7, 2014.
He was born October 29, 1923 in St. Clair to the late Delbert and Elizabeth Sterling. He married Florence “Sherry” Irene Clauss on November 14, 1947 in Green Bay, WI. She preceded him in death on February 11, 2013. Robert was also preceded in death by two brothers, Delbert and Charles.
Mr. Sterling was employed with American Tape Company prior to his retirement. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and upon his return sailed on the Great Lakes for several years. He was a member of Marysville American Legion Post #449 and was a regular attendee at the Marysville City Council Meetings.
He is survived by his son, Robert O. Sterling, Jr.; his granddaughter, Cheryl (James) Givens, and her children, Tommie Elizabeth, Andrew and James; his sister, Christine Shoebottom; three nieces, Patricia McLellan, Charleen (George) Lutz and Corinne (Mark) Roosen; a cousin, Lana (Walter) Bucci; two great nephews, John McLellan and George Lutz’ and a great niece, Katie Katrinic.
Memorial services will be held at 4 p.m. on Sunday, January 19, 2014 in the Marysville Funeral Home with visitation from 2 p.m. until the time of service. Military honors will be conducted by the St. Clair County Allied Veterans Council and the U.S. Navy. Inurnment will be in the Marysville Cemetery Columbarium at a later date.
