Virginia Doris Cooley MacDonald, 98, of Port Huron, died Wednesday, March 26, 2014. She was born July 14, 1915 in Detroit to the late Arthur and Sophia Rabe. She married Richard Cooley Sr. on September 7, 1938 and divorced on September 7, 1979. She married Freeman MacDonald of North Bay, Ontario on December 17, 1988. He died October 5, 1992.

Mrs. Cooley MacDonald graduated from Port Huron High School and Port Huron School of Nursing. She worked at Mercy Hospital and Marwood Manor as a Licensed Practical Nurse. She enjoyed many years in North Fort Myers, Florida before returning to the Port Huron area. She was an avid gardener and known by many as the “plant lady.” She loved playing euchre, penny ante poker and bingo, and having potlucks and white elephant sales with her many friends at the Dorchester Court apartment complex.

She is survived by two sons, Hon. Richard A. (Carol) Cooley, Jr. of Port Huron and Denton, TX and Dr. Thomas H. Cooley of Ionia, MI; four grandchildren, Dr. Richard Cooley III, Mark (Melody) Cooley, James (Tracey) Cooley and Heather Cooley; two great grandchildren, Emma and Drew Cooley; and three step-sons, Laurie, Trevor and Colin MacDonald, all of Canada. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Richard Cooley, Sr., and Freeman MacDonald; her son, Arthur Cooley; and her brother, Howard Rabe.

Memorial services will take place at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Peoples Clinic through St. Joseph Mercy Hospital.
