Edward H Krenke

August 19th, 1933 to May 17th, 2014

Edward Henry Krenke, Jr., 80, of Port Huron, passed away on Saturday, May 17, 2014 in Marwood Rehab Center after a short stay.

He was born August 19, 1933 in Port Huron to the late Edward and Maude Krenke. He married Martha L. Gorte on November 11, 1961 in Port Huron.

Ed worked for many years at Michigan National Bank and later returned to college attending MSU and finishing at Wayne State University with a BA in Human Services. He retired from the Michigan Department of Social Services on December 31, 1995 after 24 years of service. He was a U.S. Army veteran.

Ed was a lifelong member of St. John’s United Church of Christ where he was involved in many capacities including church council, lay leader, church choir, hand bell choir and men’s choir. After retiring, he hung out with the guys on Tuesday mornings repairing and organizing things around the church and of course enjoying coffee and donuts. Music was his passion and he volunteered with the International Symphony and with the Drum Corp International Show at Memorial Stadium. Ed loved reading and was a regular at both the Port Huron and Marysville libraries. He enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and loved playing cards, especially Euchre. He loved traveling - all through the United States and also England, Scotland and Paris with his family and to Yugoslavia with his wife, Martha. They loved spending time in Florida every year and enjoyed when the family came down to spend time there. He loved and was very proud of his grandchildren and bragged about all their accomplishments.

Mr. Krenke is survived by his wife of 52 years, Martha; daughters, Ann Baker and Elizabeth (John) Sexsmith; four grandchildren, Amanda (Tony) Kuberski, Kristin (Tod) Baker, Evan and Erin Sexsmith; great grandson, A.J., and coming soon Austin Kuberski; brother-in-law, George Gorte; sister-in-law, Barbara Gorte; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Robert, Duane and Donald Krenke; and sisters, Dorothy Turner and Lovena Sturdevant.

Visiting hours will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 23, 2014 in St. John’s United Church of Christ. The Reverend Dr. Richard Hotchkin will officiate. Inurnment will be in Lakeside Cemetery.
