Frederick Douglas

May 16th, 1921 to December 6th, 2014

Frederick Edward Douglas, Jr., 93, of Port Huron, died Saturday, December 6, 2014 in Fort Gratiot.

He was born May 16, 1921 in Highland Park to the late Frederick E. and Golda Douglas. He married Virginia Cox on August 23, 1943 in Biloxi, MS.

Mr. Douglas graduated from Cooley High School in Detroit in 1939. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corp in the Philippines during World War II.

After the war, he attended Walsh College, worked for Ford Motor Company and retired from Chrysler Corporation as a budget analyst in 1979.

Fred and Virginia moved to Port Huron from Redford Township and spent many happy years here. They walked by the water and watched boats on the St. Clair River.

He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather, who was always there for his family.

Fred is survived by his wife, Virginia; his two daughters, Dianne (Travis) Jack and Carol (William) Hilliard; grandson, Andrew (Janel) Taylor; granddaughter, Kathy (Alan) Betts; and six great grandchildren, Ethan and Ella Taylor and Calvin, Schuyler, Spencer and Connor Betts. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, James Douglas.

Funeral services will be held at 12 p.m. on Tuesday, December 9, 2014 in the Pollock-Randall Funeral Home with visitation one hour prior to the service. The Reverend Kelly M. Pittman will officiate.

Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery. Military honors will be conducted by the St. Clair County Allied Veterans Council.
