Obituary

Theodore “Ted” Currie, 82, of Marysville, died Monday, December 8, 2014 in Henry Ford Hospital, Detroit, after a short illness.

He was born April 7, 1932 in Detroit, to the late Helen and Edward Recor Currie Sr. He married his beloved Constance June Wills on February 15, 1958 in Port Huron.

Mr. Currie spent the majority of his career as a teacher, retiring from Port Huron Area School District after educating for more than 28 years, also teaching in Wayland and Three Rivers. He served in the US Army from 1952-54, earned the rank of Corporal E4 and received two medals - the National Defense Service Medal and the Army Occupational Medal - for his service in Germany. Mr. Currie enjoyed sharing many stories of his time in Germany with family and friends. He valued education and graduated from Port Huron High School in January of 1950, earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from Western Michigan University in 1968, and Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from Wayne State University in 1980.

In 1979, Mr. Currie was honored by the Port Huron Times Herald as “Father of the Year”. He was a lifetime member of the Michigan Education Association and the National Educational Association. Mr. Currie never met a stranger and always had a smile, joke or story to share. He will be deeply missed as he was deeply loved.

He is survived by his wife, Constance; their four children, Christine (Steven) Cox of Reed City, Richard (Lisa) Currie of Martin, Debora (Robert) McLendon of Mebane, NC, and Bryan (Deana) Currie of China Twp.; seventeen grandchildren, Jennifer Jensen, Matthew and Zachary Cox, Kevin, Meagan, Andrew, Alexander, Austin, Adam and Amanda Currie, Jason, Joel, Lauren and Alissa Surbrook, Matthew (Cathy), Dakota and Tucker McLendon; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his brother, Edward R. (Mary) Currie Jr.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 pm Thursday in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home, 912 Lapeer Ave., Port Huron.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Friday, December 12, 2014 in Marysville United Methodist Church with visitation beginning at 10:30 am. Reverend Barbara E. Welbaum will officiate.

Burial will follow in Lakeside Cemetery, Port Huron. Pallbearers will be Ted’s grandsons. Military honors will be under the auspices of the US Army and the Veterans Honor Guard Alliance.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.
