Robert M Pickett
Robert Martin Pickett Sr., 70, of Port Huron Township passed peacefully in his sleep, Friday, December 26, 2014 at home.
He was born June 23, 1944 in Port Huron to the late Ohmer & Ruth Pickett.
Robert served in the National Guard from 1965-71. He operated Bob’s Gulf Station before going to work at Chrysler Marine, where he built and tested marine engines in the St. Clair River, even in the winter. He retired from Chrysler Automotive in 2001 after 28 years of service. Bob was an exceptionally gifted woodworker and was known throughout the area for his automotive repair skills.
In 1998 Bob married Annette Klaas. They spent the next 16 years working on projects and traveling the country. Their most memorable trip was driving to and from Alaska while pulling their travel trailer. Bob loved spending winters in Florida with his brother and sister-in-law, Walt and Diane Klaas.
He is survived by his wife, Annette; three daughters, Tracie (Gary) Thomes, Laurie (Mike) Porrett and Shellie Pickett; his son Robert Pickett II, all of Port Huron; two step children, Christopher O’Mara and Shannon Longstreth; seven grandchildren, Alysia and Alexander Thomes, Emily Lewandowski, Nickolaus, Kaitlin and Cortnie Pickett, and Lance Lepine; his twin sister, Barbara (Chuck) Klaas; his wife’s twin, Richard (Karen) Klaas, her siblings, Myrna Wood, Walt (Diane) Klaas, Robert (Michele) Klaas and Laurie (Jeff) Parker; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, James, in 2002 and by a brother, David Pickett in 2009.
Visitation will be 1-3 and 6-8 PM Sunday, December 28 in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home, Port Huron.
Funeral services will be at 11 AM Monday in Our Saviour Lutheran Church. Pastor Donald R. Doerzbacher will officiate.
Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery at 2 PM. Pallbearers will be Nick Pickett, Alex Thomes, Christopher O’Mara, Mike Porrett, Kyle Klaas and Don Frumveller.
