Richard F "Dick" Schmitt

Richard Frank “Dick” Schmitt, 78, of Marysville, died Tuesday, December 30, 2014.
He was born December 3, 1936 in Port Huron to the late Joseph and Anne Schmitt. He married Mariol Gillett on August 18, 1973 in Port Huron.
Mr. Schmitt graduated from St. Stephen’s High School and earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Wayne State University. He taught at St. Edward’s on the Lake School and retired from the Port Huron Area School District after 28 years of service. He served in the National Guard. Mr. Schmitt was a member and lector at St. Christopher Catholic Church and member of the Knights of Columbus Marysville Council #9526. He was also active with Port Huron Civic Theater and enjoyed golfing. More than anything, he loved spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Mariol; three daughters, Kathleen (Aaron) Quain, Sara (Grafton) Sharp and Kristina Schmitt and fiancé, Matt Smith; two granddaughters, Sophia and Amelia Sharp; a sister, Joan (Dennis) Tetreau; a sister-in-law, Meredith Schmitt; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Barbara and Rollin Stocker, David and Wendy Gillett and Edna Gillett; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Schmitt; and a brother-in-law, Stewart Gillett.
Visitation will be 2-8 p.m. Friday in the Marysville Funeral Home. The Knights of Columbus will recite a rosary at 8 p.m.
Mr. Schmitt will lie in state from 1 p.m. until the time of the Funeral Mass at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, January 3, 2015 in St. Christopher Catholic Church. The Reverend Arthur Baranowski will officiate.
Burial will be in Riverlawn Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Aaron Quain, Grafton Sharp, Matt Smith, Eric Stocker, Stephen Tetreau and Joseph Tetreau.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
