Marvin John Ashton, 78, of Port Huron, went to be with his Savior on Monday, February 9, 2015.

He was born February 28, 1936 in Detroit to the late Edward John and Iris Alice Ashton. He married Kay Scharnweber Kavanaugh on June 18, 1976 in St. Clair.

Mr. Ashton was employed with General Motors Corporation and retired in 1986 as a Design Engineer after 33 years of service. He served in the U.S. Navy. Marv loved Jesus and was a volunteer on the spiritual care staff of Port Huron Hospital. He enjoyed fishing, camping, golf, Red Wings and Port Huron hockey and loved spending time with his family.

He is survived by his loving wife, Kay; children, Ken (Julie) Ashton, Beth (Steve) Day, Jim (Christine) Kavanaugh and Scot (Laurette) Kavanaugh; grandchildren, Shawne and Mitchel (Ashley) Ashton, Caurey (Matt) Byers, Andrew (Breanna) and Emily Day, Nolan and Gracie Kavanaugh, Sydney and Shelby Kavanaugh and McKenna and Keennan Visga; great grandchildren, Lexie, Hudson and Baby Day expected March 4; his wife’s siblings, David (Carole) Scharnweber, Susan Daniels, Bob Scharnweber and Bill Scharnweber; many nieces and nephews; his camping buddy, Ruth Relken; and his beloved dogs, Buddy and Jack.

Visitation will be 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Thursday in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, February 13, 2015 in Hillside Wesleyan Church with visitation beginning at 10 a.m. The Rev. Dirk Case, the Rev. Bill Kinnan and the Rev. Lyle Reynolds will officiate.

Inurnment will be in Allied Veterans Cemetery, Port Huron. Military honors will be conducted under the auspices of the U.S. Navy and the Veterans Honor Guard Alliance.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Veterans Honor Guard Alliance. Arrangements are by Pollock-Randall Funeral Home.
