Robert J LaGruth

June 13th, 1951 to May 25th, 2015
Robert John LaGruth, 63, of Marysville, passed away peacefully on May 25, 2015, in his home surrounded by family and friends. He lived with purpose his whole life, and did not abandon that call, even through the challenges of brain cancer.

He was born June 13, 1951 in St. Clair to the late John “Jack” LaGruth and Meredith (Nelson) LaGruth. He married Nadine Kay Ostrander, July 28, 1973, after dating through high school and college, and “My Robert John” loved her the rest of his life.

He is survived by his wife, Nadine; his mother, Meredith; two children, Michelle (Rick) Carlson, of Marysville and Anthony LaGruth, of Port Huron; three grandchildren, Noah & Ella Carlson and Roland LaGruth; Roland’s mother, Tiffany LaGruth; his sisters, Dianne (Dan) Sopha of Kimball, Denise Bowman (fiancé, Ed) of White Lake, Debbie (Mark) Stringer of Carrollton, Texas; Nadine’s sisters, Roxann (Larry) Kittinger of Albion; Diana (Jay) Lindsey of Fort Gratiot, and Eileen Lucille (Michael) Browning, of St. Clair; and many nieces, nephews, church family, and dear friends.

Robert was preceded in death by his father, Jack; his sister, Darlene Pullen; and his wife’s parents, Richard and Eileen Ostrander.

Robert lived his life with great passion, having a heart for all people, and devoted himself to using his gifts in all endeavors. He loved work…whatever that work was…and he worked hard, stretching to give of himself in multiple environments, businesses, and organizations. He loved people, touching countless lives with his music and service to his church and community. His patience and kindness permeated each person and place. He was the life of the party, the voice of reason, and Christ’s Light in our world. He spent his time loving people, worshipping God, and making music. He taught those around him about generosity and service to others in word and deed. And he was loved deeply and dearly.

A time of visitation will be held from 2-9 pm on Friday, May 29, 2015 in the Marysville Funeral Home.

Robert’s Memorial Celebration will be two weeks later at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 13, 2015, in Pilgrim Lutheran Church, Marysville. The Reverend John W. Hitzeroth will officiate.

Memorials may be given in Robert’s name to Pilgrim Lutheran Church, Blue Water Habitat for Humanity or Blue Water Hospice.
