Obituary

Grant Michael Loughren, 95, of Marysville, died Friday, September 18, 2015.

He was born February 28, 1920 in Mikado, Michigan to the late Samuel and Vancie Loughren and was a resident of Marysville since 1948. He married his childhood sweetheart, Donna Short, on December 15, 1945 in First Presbyterian Church, Port Huron.

Mr. Loughren was employed with Detroit Edison, retiring from the plant medical department. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps as a Marine Corpsman and the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean War. During his service he earned the Bronze Star Medal, Navy Good Conduct Medal, World War II Victory Medal, American Defense Service Medal, American Campaign Medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal with 4 Bronze Stars, Philippine Liberation Medal with 2 Bronze Stars, and the Philippine Presidential Unit Citation. He was a life member of Fort Gratiot Lodge #58 F. & A.M. and American Legion Marysville Post #449. He was a longtime member of Marysville United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Donna; two children, Laurie (John) Crisenbery and Thomas (Janeen) Loughren; a sister-in-law, Shirley (Daniel) Landberg; dear caretakers and friends, Karen, Larry, Shelly, and Jamie Emery, Stephanie Ayers, and Jessica Klaas; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by a son, Michael E. Loughren.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 26, 2015 in Marysville United Methodist Church with visitation beginning at 10 a.m. The Rev. Barbara Welbaum will officiate. Military honors will be conducted under the auspices of the U.S. Marine Corps and the Veterans Honor Guard Alliance.

Burial will be in Riverlawn Cemetery, Marysville.

Memorial contributions may be made to Marysville United Methodist Church, the Veterans Honor Guard Alliance or the St. Clair County Council on Aging.
