John Gilbert Zimerman, 86, of Marysville passed away at home surrounded by his family on Tuesday, September 22, 2015.

He was born October 3, 1928 to the late Gilbert and Mildred Zimerman. He married the love of his life, Carole Sturges, on March 13, 1964.

John served in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged in 1948.

He graduated from West Seattle High School in 1946 and from the University of Washington in 1953 with a degree in General Business. While in college, he was a member of Delta Chi Washington Chapter. His first career was in the chemical industry on the West Coast. He then became a Real Estate Broker in southern California, owning and operating his company selling commercial and industrial properties. He met Carole in San Francisco and, when they retired, they returned to her hometown of Marysville in 1989.

He was a member of the Marysville Rotary Club, City of Marysville Planning Commission and the City of Marysville Elected Officials Compensation Commission. He was also a member of the Marysville United Methodist Church since 1989 where he sang in the church choir and was also a weekly counter.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Carole; a brother, Tom Zimerman of Spring Valley, California; brother-in-law, Robert (Margo) Sturges of California; sister-in-law, Nancy (Larry) Corrigan of Kimball; brother-in-law, Gary Goodin of Marysville; four nieces, Dana (Larry) Westphal and Stacy (Brad) Priehs, both of Marysville, Pamela Pledger of San Jose, California and Patrisha Pledger of Kimball; four nephews, David Sylvester and Jim (Francie) Sylvester, both of Washington, Tom and John (Renae) Zimerman, both of California; several great nieces and nephews; his two best real estate pals, business partner Ron Thompson and Bruce Parsons; and by his church family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Carol Griffith; sister-in-law, Pamela Goodin; and his beloved small black poodle, Rosey, who was 19 years old and died just two weeks before he did.

Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 pm Tuesday in the Marysville Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, September 30, 2015 in Marysville United Methodist Church. The Reverend Barbara Welbaum will officiate.

Burial will follow in Riverlawn Cemetery, Marysville. Pallbearers will be Robert Sturges, Gary Goodin, Dennis MacPherson, Terry MacPherson, Larry Westphal, Dana Westphal, Stacie Priehs and Chris Westphal

Military honors will be provided under the auspices of the U.S. Army and the St. Clair County Allied Veterans Honor Guard.

Memorials may be made to Marysville United Methodist Church.

The family wishes to thank, most wholeheartedly, his loving caregivers, Janet Driggers, Breanna Driggers, Janelle Commisso, Kathleen Bartz and Kelli Driggers for their wonderful care. Also to Dr. John Brooks and Shawn Bourne, RN for care above and beyond.
