James J. Malama, 77, of Wales Township, died Saturday, February 13, 2016.
He was born August 25, 1938 in East Detroit to the late Thomas and Julieanna Malama.
Mr. Malama served in the U.S. Navy. He owned and operated a Gas Service Station in Northern Michigan for many years and was also a trucking expeditor. He enjoyed watching NASCAR and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his beloved life partner of 20 years, Penny Johnson; five children, James Malama, Denise (Jay Schoenmaker) Malama, Douglas (Christine) Malama, Renee (Wayne) White and Nicole (Steven) Hudson; daughter-in-law, Kelly Malama; Penny’s children, Debbie (Marshall) Campbell, Pat (Karen) Johnson, Theresa (Marcel) Choudhury and Richard Johnson; 30 grandchildren; many great grandchildren; a brother, Thomas (Fran) Malama; sister, Charlotte Malama; and several nieces and nephews.
A family gathering to celebrate his life will be held this summer. Military honors will be conducted at that time by the St. Clair County Allied Veterans Council and the U.S. Navy.
Memorials may be made to Blue Water Hospice.
