Sophie Papajohn
Sophie Papajohn, 78, of Kimball Township and formerly of Warren, passed Sunday, March 6, 2016 after a short battle with cancer.
She was born October 10, 1937 in Detroit to the late Anastas and Katherine Pantelides. She married John Papajohn on June 15, 1969 in Detroit.
Sophie earned her Bachelor’s degree in teaching and later Master’s degree in education from Michigan State University and was a lifelong Spartan fan. She was employed with the Lakeview Public School District as an elementary school teacher for 39 years where she touched the hearts of countless children. Upon her retirement, Sophie continued her love for children and teaching by helping raise her four beautiful grandchildren.
Sophie loved to shop. She spent many of her retired days at her favorite stores purchasing gifts for her loved ones. She also enjoyed cooking, reading with her grandchildren, traveling to many warm and sunny destinations, and spending summers at her cottage.
She is survived by her husband of 46 years, John; daughters, Markel (Paul) Keller and Kristianna Papajohn; grandchildren, Mikayla, Preston, Alayna and Karston; sisters, Diana (Richard) Cox and Markel (Michael) DeWolf; brother, Jordan (Carlene) Pantelides; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday and 1-3 and 5-8 p.m. Wednesday in the Marysville Funeral Home. A Trisagion service will be celebrated at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 10, 2016 in Grace Episcopal Church. Father Chrysostomos Achilleos of St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church and Father Nicholas Kyritses of St. John Greek Orthodox Church will officiate.
Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery, Port Huron Township.
