Sylvia M Thayer

Margaret Harju Thayer, 100, of Fort Gratiot, died Friday, March 11, 2016.

She was born January 7, 1916 in Rudyard, Michigan to the late William and Lizzie Nivala. She graduated from Rudyard High School in 1935 and married Wilfred J. Harju that same year on December 12 in St. Ignace. He died October 21, 1975. She married Milton Thayer in March 1985. He died February 17, 1990.

Margaret was an instructor at both the Sault Ste. Marie and Port Huron beauty schools.

She is survived by her son, Richard (Delores) Harju; three grandsons, Mark (Julie), Todd (Shelley) and Neil (Sheryl) Harju; great grandchildren, Sarabeth, Olivia, Lauren, Ryan and Michael (Casey) Harju and Heather Marks; great great grandchildren, Cameron and Natalie Harju; step daughters-in-law, Julia and Muriel Thayer; stepson, Jim (Lottie) Thayer; step grandchildren, Jackie and Joe (Karla) Thayer; step great grandchildren, Josiah, Jakob, Elina, Robin, Robert, Scott, Bradley, Thane, Tim and Tracey Thayer. She was preceded in death by stepsons Jeryl and Dale Thayer.

The family wishes to thank Cristi Dixon for all her loving care.

No services are scheduled. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Fort Gratiot Township, in the summer.
