Donald W Colgan
Donald William Colgan, 79, went to be with the Lord on March 29, 2016 in Litchfield Park, Arizona.
He was born October 8, 1936 in Port Huron, Michigan to Albert and Laura Colgan. He graduated from Port Huron High School in 1954, where he was active in track, cross country, baseball, and swimming. Don worked as a lifeguard at Lakeside Beach before he entered the U.S. Air Force Reserves, becoming a military police officer. He also worked as a police officer in Sturgis, Michigan. He completed the radiology training course at Port Huron Hospital and throughout his career worked at several hospitals in Port Huron, Bay City, Detroit, Gaylord, Hastings, and Sturgis, Michigan; Leavenworth, Kansas; and St. Louis, Missouri. He retired from hospital administration and moved to Globe, Arizona.
Don was an avid hunter and animal lover. He enjoyed feeding and watching the hummingbirds, Gambel’s quail, and wild pigs that visited his backyard at dusk. He was an accomplished duck carver and enjoyed playing golf.
Don is survived by two sons, William (Rachelle) Colgan of Chicago, Illinois, and Andrew Colgan of Sun City West, Arizona; one daughter, Anne (Lance) Johnston of Goodyear, Arizona; his grandchildren, Brent and Brooke Johnston, Maya Cruz, Zachary and Taylor Colgan; his former wives, Eileen and Dorothy; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Richard and Eleanor Colgan of Hudsonville and Joseph and Mary Colgan of Fort Gratiot; his nieces and nephews, and many cousins in Michigan and Canada.
A memorial service to honor his life will be held on Saturday, April 30, 2016 at 4:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, 828 Lapeer Ave, Port Huron, Michigan, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial at Lakeside Cemetery in Port Huron will be conducted with military honors.
