G. Virginia Douglas

May 17th, 1922 to June 2nd, 2016

Port Huron - G. Virginia Douglas died June 2, 2016 in the Blue Water Hospice Home.

She was born May 17, 1922 in Springfield, Illinois to William and Mary Cox. She and her parents moved to Detroit, Michigan when she was 6 years old. She graduated from Cooley High School in Detroit in 1941. On August 23, 1943, Virginia married Frederick E. Douglas Jr. in Biloxi, Mississippi. Fred passed away December 6, 2014.

During World War II, Virginia worked in several defense plants in Detroit as an inspector of airplane parts. After the war, she started what she said was her greatest career, raising a family. She said recently, that when she died she wanted to find out the answer to the question, “Why was I here?” Her family knows why she was here. She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother and we are what we are because she loved us.

Virginia is survived by her daughter Dianne and son-in-law Travis Jack, her daughter Carol and son-in-law William Hilliard, grandson Andrew and granddaughter-in-law Janel Taylor, great grandchildren Ethan and Ella Taylor, granddaughter Kathy and grandson-in-law Alan Betts, and great grandchildren Calvin, Schuyler, Spencer and Connor Betts.

Arrangements are by Pollock-Randall Funeral Home. Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 6, 2016 in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home with visitation one hour before the service. The Rev. Kelly Pittman will officiate.

Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery, Port Huron.
