Francis Baird

Francis “Frank” Baird, 91, of Fort Gratiot Township died Tuesday, June 7, 2016. He was born February 21, 1925 in Port Huron to the late Burton and Cecilia Baird. He married Patricia Ann Duncan on November 2, 1951 in Angola, Indiana. She died December 28, 2014 after 63 years of marriage. Mr. Baird was a veteran of World War II where he served as a mechanic on an aircraft carrier in the U.S. Navy. While in the service he was stationed in the Fiji Islands and New Hebrides. After his return from the service he earned his private pilot’s license. He also worked as a residential carpenter for many years. He enjoyed traveling with his family and skiing on the Black River off Strawberry Lane with the other members of the Marysville Aqua Skiers Club. He is survived by his children, Karen Baird (Alex Thompson), William A. (Rene) Baird, Laraine (Robert) Bossman, Gordon F. Baird (Anne Carpenter); 7 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; sister, Marilyn (Ted) Dawes; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his grandchildren, Jessica and Ingrid; and brother, George Baird. A memorial gathering will take place from 1 - 4 pm on Sunday, June 12, 2016 in the Blue Water Aerie #3702 (FOE), 2645 Howard Street, Port Huron Township. The family requests memorials be made to the charity of the donor’s choice. Arrangements are by Pollock-Randall Funeral Home.
