Ernest T Merrithew

Ernest T. Merrithew, 78, of Marysville, died June 3, 2016 in Melbourne, Florida.

He was born November 26, 1937 in Marysville and lived there all of his life. He graduated from Marysville High School and attended Alma College. He was employed with the City of Marysville and retired as a firefighter.

Ernie was a legendary softball pitcher in the Port Huron Softball Association. He had a passion for throwing horseshoes with his friends. He loved to go out fishing on his boat and enjoyed golfing. At the end of the summer, Ernie would have an annual “Fish Fry” and feed family and friends with all the fish he had caught. Upon retirement, he traveled to his winter home in Melbourne, Florida, to spend time with his many dear friends there.

He is survived by his children, Kevin E. Merrithew and Renee (Philip) Stocker; three granddaughters, Taylor (Daniel) Ward, Jaime Anglin and Skye Merrithew; three grandsons, Chad (Andrea) Stocker, Kyle (Nicole) Stocker and David Stocker; four great grandchildren, Ellis Ward, Braden Stocker, Nathan Stocker and Ryan Stocker; a sister, Nancy Fletcher; dear niece, Jill Hunter; and cousin and loyal friend, Vic Donaghy. He was preceded in death by his father, Ruben (Anna) Merrithew; his mother, Helen Merrin; a brother, Donald Merrithew; and grandfather, George Kostopoulos.

A memorial visitation will take place from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, June 30, 2016 in the Marysville Funeral Home, 1200 Michigan Avenue, Marysville.

Inurnment will be in the Riverlawn Cemetery Columbarium, Marysville.
