James A Schiller
James Alfred Schiller, 83, of Marysville, died Wednesday, November 2, 2016.
He was born May 6, 1933 in Port Huron to the late Joseph and Hilda Schiller. He married Barbara Blizzard on July 20, 1957 in Port Huron. She died April 29, 2004.
Mr. Schiller graduated from Marysville High School and served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He was a drywaller with Schiller Drywall for over 20 years and purchased Jack’s Tavern in 1981, which he operated until selling it to his son in 1996. He was a member of Pilgrim Lutheran Church. He was a past chaplain and worked bingo for Marysville American Legion Post 449, was a member of Voiture 120 St. Clair County 40/8 and Moose Lodge #158, and served on several Marysville city boards. He enjoyed going on cruises, spending time at Warner’s cabin in Mio, and especially loved playing euchre at Jack’s Tavern.
He is survived by two children, James (Rochelle) Schiller Jr. and Julie Schlitts; four grandchildren, Amanda (Ryan) Murphy, Thomas Schlitts II, Courtney Schlitts and Jadelyn Schiller; two great-grandchildren, Aiden and Boyd Murphy; a brother, Joseph (Ginna) Schiller; a brother-in-law, Neville Gunter; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, John Schiller; and a sister, Muriel Gunter.
Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday in the Marysville Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, November 7, 2016 in Pilgrim Lutheran Church. The Rev. John Hitzeroth will officiate.
Burial will be in Riverlawn Cemetery, Marysville. Military honors will be conducted under the auspices of the U.S. Navy and the St. Clair County Allied Veterans Honor Guard. Pallbearers will be Thomas Schlitts II, Larry McMaster, William Angerbrandt, Richard Warner, Billy LeCaine and Todd Herring.
