Donald Edward Cleland, 83, of Kenockee Township, died Friday, November 5, 2016.
He was born July 14, 1933 in Detroit to the late Earl and Sallie Cleland and lived in Detroit until 1948, when he moved to the family farm in Forestville.
Don attended Harbor Beach High School, where he met the love of his life, Ann Bunting. They were married on June 12, 1954 in Harbor Beach.
Don and Ann then moved to Detroit, where he graduated in 1958 from Lawrence Tech with a degree in structural engineering.
Don was employed at J.L. Peters Co. and Overhead Door, before retiring in 1994. He then moved to his “farm” in Avoca where he enjoyed his various flower gardens, wildlife and peaceful surroundings.
He enjoyed football, hockey and was a Michigan Wolverine season ticket holder for 30 years.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Ann; devoted and loving children, Gwen Mitch (Rick Adams) of Fort Gratiot, David (Tamera) Cleland of Grand Junction, Colorado and Michael Cleland of Kimball Township; four grandchildren, Kelly (Randy) Norton, Ryan Mitch, Alex and Sara Cleland; three great-grandchildren, Autumn and Bradley Roesch and Shayna Norton; his sister, Joyce Hedgecock of Des Moines, Iowa; and many nephews, nieces and cousins. He was preceded in death by two brothers, William Cleland and Earl Cleland.
Don will always be remembered for his strong will, determination and infectious smile. He will truly be missed by all that his spirit touched. “Go Blue”.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, November 10, 2016 in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home with visitation from 11 a.m. until the time of service. The Reverend Max Amstutz will officiate.
