Linda L Murray

December 12th, 1942 to January 9th, 2017

Linda L. Murray, age 74, of Port Huron, Michigan, went to be with the Lord on January 9, 2017.

Born December 12, 1942, in Marysville MI, Linda was the youngest of Stanley and Viola VanConant's six children. She was a life-long resident of the Port Huron area and attended and graduated from the Port Huron area school district.

Linda was a firecracker of a woman whose kind heart and generous spirit knew no limit. During the fifties, she proudly served her country as a member of the Women's Army Corps. She was an active member of The Council on Aging, the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, and for the past thirteen years has served the Port Huron area school district as a foster grandparent, a position she was especially proud of.

Linda was also an avid reader and skilled crafter who enjoyed knitting, crocheting, hooking rugs and needlepoint. Over the years, she crafted and donated more than 1,000 lap robes and afghans to organizations throughout her community. Veterans, the elderly, various hospitals and homeless shelters were all gifted with Linda's love.

She is survived by her sister Charlotte (Robert) Whitcombe; brother-in-law John Mumford; brother-in-law Wendall Dobson Sr.; 26 nieces and nephews; 60 great nieces and nephews; more than 20 great great nieces and nephews and many, many special friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Stanley and Viola VanConant; sisters, Roberta Dobson and Joyce Mumford; and brothers, Donald and Gerald VanConant.

A memorial service, including military honors, will be held at the Lakeside Cemetery chapel on Friday, January 27, 2017, at 2 p.m. Following the service, a luncheon will be served at the Washington Avenue Methodist Church located at 1217 Washington Avenue, Port Huron.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Susan Duda and her family for the love and friendship they extended to Linda and for including her in your family as if she were your own.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the veteran's organization of your choosing.
