Leroy S Washburn

Leroy S. Washburn, 92, of Port Huron, was Promoted to Glory on Wednesday, January 11, 2017.

He was born September 16, 1924 in Richmond, Virginia, to the late Glen and Hattie Washburn. He married Louise L. Little on December 13, 1946 in Port Huron.

Leroy was a car inspector with Grand Trunk Western Railroad retiring after 39 years of service. He was an active long time member of The Salvation Army church and played in The Salvation Army band. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII and bowled in a senior bowling league for many years.

He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Louise; a daughter, Deborah (Brett) May; seven grandchildren, Timothy and Patrick Washburn, Timothy May, Garrett (Katey) Grindle, Ashley (Jason) Kish, Taylor Grindle and Elliott May; seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Esther Washburn-Smith; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, Timothy Washburn; sister, Violet Keeler; and brother, Wycliffe “Sonny” Washburn.

Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. on Saturday, January 14, 2017 in The Salvation Army - Port Huron Citadel, 2000 Court Street, Port Huron, with visitation from 1:30-3:30 p.m. at the Church. Major Edward Rowland will officiate.
