Phillip Neal “Skip” Oppertshauser, 85, of Port Huron lost his long battle with cancer and died peacefully at home on Sunday, May 14, 2017.

He was born March 13, 1932 in St. Clair to the late Vernon J. and Phyllis Oppertshauser. He married Lois E. Strobbe on July 23, 1955.

Phillip served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was employed by John A. Biewer Sporting Goods for over 40 years. He enjoyed fishing, gardening and trips to the casino. He also loved his family and sharing his quick wit with all.

He is survived by his wife, Lois; daughter, Kathy (Terry) Frantz; son, Eric (Lura) Oppertshauser; granddaughters, Samantha (Chris) Stevenson, Callie and Hillary Oppertshauser; great granddaughters, Cadence and Julie Stevenson; and step-sister, Marjorie Hyde. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Julie Ann Oppertshauser; step mother, Frances Oppertshauser; and brother, John J. Oppertshauser.

Visitation will be from 2-4 and 7-9 pm Wednesday in the Marysville Funeral Home.

Phillip will lie in state at 10:00 am until the time of the Funeral Mass at 11:00 am Thursday, May 18, 2017 in Holy Trinity Parish St. Joseph Catholic Church. The Reverend Jeffrey Allan will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Terry Frantz, Chris Stevenson, Tim Frantz and Andre Frantz.

Military honors will be provided under the auspices of the U.S. Army and the St. Clair County Allied Veterans Honor Guard.
