Orvis B Wakely
Orvis B. Wakely, 91, of Port Huron, died, Sunday, May 28, 2017.
He was born April 8, 1926 in Waubay, South Dakota to the late Floy and Bertha Wakely. He married Lila Cornwell on November 8, 1958 in Port Huron. She preceded him in death on December 7, 2000.
Mr. Wakely was employed for 35 years by the Port Huron Area School District as Head Custodian. He served with the U.S. Army during WWII in the European-African Theatre of Operations and was awarded the Victory Medal, American Theater Ribbon, European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with two Bronze Battle Stars, One Overseas Service Bar and a Good Conduct Medal. He was a member of Washington Avenue United Methodist Church and a 60 year member of Port Huron Lodge # 58 F.&A.M. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing poker with his friends, traveling, especially to Hawaii, and spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by two children, Sherry (Don) Betts and Rodney Whiting; six grandchildren, Shane (Teresa) Betts, Shelly Hughes, Angie (Will) Betts-Pacholke, Tim (Kelly) Whiting, Tracy Whiting and Jennifer Whiting; great grandchildren, Justin, Andrew, Tyler, Brooke, Breanna, Kelsey, Travis, Lacey and Faith; sister-in-law, Shirley Wakely and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Deborah Williams; brother, Floy Wakely Jr.; and a sister, Lorraine Urchick.
Visitation will be 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Thursday in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home.
Funeral Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 2, 2017 in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home. The Reverend Penny Nunn will officiate.
Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Justin Hansen, Tyler and Travis Hughes, Will Pacholke, Tim Whiting and Robert Hill.
Military honors will be conducted by the U.S. Army and the St. Clair County Veterans Honor Guard.
