Gerald LeRoy Zieg, 90, of Port Huron, died Wednesday, July 12, 2017 in Metairie, Louisiana.

He was born October 1, 1926 in Marion, Ohio to the late Lloyd LeRoy and Jesse Mae Farrington Zieg. He married Retta Maureen Bluhm on August 16, 1947 in Port Huron.

Gerald worked as a teacher in the Port Huron Area School District for 20 years until his retirement in 1992. He served in the U.S. Air Force from September 1944 until November 1945 during World War II. Gerald earned a bachelor’s degree from Michigan State University and master’s and education specialist degrees from Wayne State University. Gerald was a life-long member of First United Methodist Church where he participated in the choir for 72 years. He was also a member of the Schubert Male Chorus, B.P.O.E. Lodge #343, Port Huron Jaycees and several bowling leagues.

He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Retta; daughter and son-in-law, Janet Maureen Zieg Murillo and Louis Murillo of Kenner, Louisiana; son and daughter-in-law, David Lloyd Zieg and Nora Zieg of Milford; son, Alan James Zieg of San Diego, California; daughter-in-law, Susan Zieg of Carlsbad, California; six grandchildren, Jennifer and Elizabeth Zieg and Ian Zamora, Nathaniel and Jessica Zieg, and John Cody Frumveller; siblings, Marilyn Dostie of Port Huron and Robert (Christine) Zieg of Florida.

He was preceded in death by a son, Gerald Walter Zieg in 2006; and sister, Hilda Misch Jean in 2017.

Visitation will be from 2-5 p.m. Saturday, August 12 in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 pm Sunday, August 13, 2017 in First United Methodist Church. The Reverend LuAnn Rourke will officiate. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery, Port Huron.

Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Endowment or Organ Completion Funds.
