John M "Jack" Zimmer

December 13th, 1953 to August 20th, 2017

John Michael “Jack” Zimmer, 63, of St. Clair Township, died Sunday, August 20, 2017.

He was born December 13, 1953 in Port Huron to the late Leo and Virginia Zimmer. He married Janice “Jan” Blake on February 19, 1984.

Jack graduated from Port Huron High School in 1972. He served in the U.S. Army stationed in Germany during the Vietnam Era. He owned and operated Murray-Zimmer Inc. a heating and cooling business located in Marysville until his retirement.

He was a life-long Boy Scout and Scout Master. He was an Eagle Scout, BSA James E. West Fellow and as his father before him, was a Silver Beaver. He was past president and 20 year board member of the Model T Ford Club International. He restored many award winning cars. His 1915 Model T Ford was awarded the Stynoski Award for outstanding national restoration and was Grand Champion at the Old Car Festival at Greenfield Village. After his retirement, he enjoyed attending the Tuesday morning men’s breakfast club from the PHHS Class of 1972. He was a proud member of Marysville American Legion Post 449 and the Voiture 120 St. Clair County 40/8.

He is survived by his wife, Jan; children, Master Sergeant Corinne Zimmer and her husband, Master Sergeant Mark Frankenhoff U.S.A.F.; Michael Zimmer and his wife, Erika; Sarah Ellul and her husband, Murphy; siblings, Patricia and Thomas Bentley, Robert and Virginia Zimmer, Marilyn Zimmer, and David and Susan Zimmer; step-brother, Seth and Ellen Hoover; step sister, Sandra Sparks; sister-in-law, Sue Zimmer; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his brother, William Zimmer.

Visitation will be held from 7-9 pm Thursday and 2-9 pm Friday in the Marysville Funeral Home. A Scripture Service will be held at 8:00 p.m. Friday evening.

Mr. Zimmer will lie in state from 10:30 am until the time of the Funeral Mass at 11:00 am Saturday, August 26, 2017 in St. Mary Catholic Church, Port Huron. The Reverend Zbigniew Zomerfeld will officiate.

Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Troop 216 Eagle Scouts, William Savage, Cody Hepinstall, Tom Anderson, Jim Sturtridge, Ben Sroka, John Welser, Caleb Gordon, Bob Avers, Cody Brazell, Christian Brazell, Brandon Gregg and Josh Olszewski. Military honors will be conducted under the auspices of the U.S. Army and the St. Clair County Allied Veterans Honor Guard.
