Walter M. Swords, 90, of Port Huron Township, died Monday, September 4, 2017.

He was born May 5, 1927 in Detroit to the late Davis and Mollie Swords.

Mr. Swords served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Following his service, he became a certified dog trainer until beginning his career as a computer programmer with Chrysler Corporation. He loved fishing, telling jokes, playing his harmonica, smoking his pipe and spending time with his grandchildren. However, his true full time passion was taking care of his family.

He is survived by his daughter, Clarice Swords; grandchildren, Justin Schuster, Molly (James) Schuster-Prior, Aubrey (Michael) Stevens and Arwen Swords; great grandchildren, Aaren Woolsley and Madelynn Patricia Prior; sister, Cecelia “Nancy” Swords; and his brother, Robert “Bob” Swords. He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia and daughters, Cheryl Lang and Colleen Schuster.

Graveside Services will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, September 21, 2017 in Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly. Military honors will be conducted by the U.S. Navy.
