Robert Franklin Schmitt, 86, of Port Huron Township, died Sunday, October 15, 2017.

He was born November 4, 1930 in Port Huron to the late Carl and Bertha Schmitt. He married Katherine Truskowski on September 7, 1957 in Port Huron.

Mr. Schmitt was an engineer with Grand Trunk Western Railroad, retiring after 44 years of service. He served in the U.S. Air Force. He enjoyed watching sports with his sons, bowling and spending time at the lake during the summers. Bob will be remembered as a devoted husband, father and grandfather and someone who loved the color blue.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Katherine; five children, Robert Schmitt, Paul Schmitt, John (Terri) Schmitt, Mary (Tim) Kramer and Thomas Schmitt; five grandchildren, Taylor Raufus, Chloe Schmitt, Summerlee Schmitt, Melissa (Joe) Dunleavy and Courtney Kramer; a great grandson, Liam Dunleavy; three sisters, Bette McEachern, Marylin Armstrong and Jackie Bonney; two sisters-in-law, Joyce Schmitt and Margaret Hughes; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by two siblings, William Schmitt and Louise Spencer.

A Memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 4, 2017 in Holy Trinity Parish St. Stephen Catholic Church with visitation beginning at 10:30 a.m. The Rev. Salvatore Palazzolo will officiate. Military honors will be conducted under the auspices of the U.S. Air Force and the St. Clair County Allied Veterans Honor Guard.
