Carol Dornbrock

June 10th, 1937 to December 2nd, 2017

Carol Dornbrock (Ashton), 80, a resident of Traverse City, MI and Safety Harbor, FL, peacefully passed into the arms of her Savior, Saturday the 2nd of December, 2017 at Regency-on-the-Lake assisted living facility in Port Huron, MI.

Born in 1937 in Detroit, MI to the late Marvin and Laura Dornbrock, Carol graduated from Denby High School in 1955. She went on to work as a dental assistant, then for Michigan Bell. She was also the owner of several rental houses and a resort on Elk Lake in northern Michigan. Later in life, she began to spend her winters in Clearwater Beach, FL, where she fell in love with Marcel “Mike” Pinard. The two were devoted companions until he passed in January.

Carol is survived by her children, Ken (Julie) Ashton and Beth (Steve) Day; grandchildren, Andrew (Breanna) Day, Shawne Ashton, Mitchel (Ashley) Ashton, Caurey (Matt) Byers, and Emily Day; great-grandchildren, Alexia and Hudson Byers and Roslyn Day; as well as Mike’s children, Marcy Elkasri and Becky Pinard, and grandson, Michael (Veronica) Giles. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Jane (Dean) Baker; step-brother, Dave (Geri) Andrews; several nieces and nephews; and many very close friends from the Port Huron, Traverse City and Clearwater Beach areas.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents, step-mom, Genevieve Dornbrock, and brother, Roger Dornbrock.

Known to family and friends as “Granny Sunflower,” Carol lived a full life and was known for her happy demeanor and zestfulness. She will be remembered for her generosity and her strong faith in God.

A celebration of Carol’s life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 27, 2018 at Hillside Wesleyan Church in Clyde Township, MI. The Rev. Dirk Case will officiate. Family visitation will be at 10 a.m.

An additional celebration will be held in June in Traverse City.
