Wilbur L Conley
Wilbur Lewis Conley, 92, of Avoca, died Thursday, December 7, 2017.
He was born May 30, 1925 in Cherokee, Iowa, to the late Wilbur Otis and Marie Beatrice (Oswald) Conley. He married Rose Mary Taylor on March 26, 1949 in Mt. Morris, Michigan.
Wilbur worked on the family farm before being drafted into the Army for World War II in 1943. He served on the islands of Leyte, Guadalcanal, Bougainville, Sabu and Japan in the South Pacific. He returned home and worked at the St. Clair Rubber Company for over 30 years. During this time, he was also a farmer, logger and pallet maker. He enjoyed traveling, lumberman expositions and his grandchildren. He was a longtime member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Parish in Emmett and the Emmett VFW.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Rose; five children, Trudy Brown of Yale, Denise DeLancy of Sandusky, Timothy Conley of Yale, Lori (Jim) O’Mara of Sandusky and Gregory “Tom” (Linda) Conley of Port Huron; 14 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren; siblings, Harold (Karen) Conley, Mary (Arnold) Grifka, Robert (Cheryl) Conley and Ruth Reinke. He was preceded in death by his son, Wilbur Jr.; and his siblings, LeRoy, Virginia, Lois and Ralph.
Mr. Conley will lie in state from 9 a.m. until the time of the Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, December 16, 2017 in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, 10828 Brandon Road, Emmett. The Rev. H. Thomas Kuehnemund will officiate.
Burial will be in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Emmett. Military honors will be conducted under the auspices of the U.S. Army and the St. Clair County Allied Veterans Honor Guard.
