Timothy Bryan Sanders, Sr., 70, of Marysville, passed away peacefully in his home on December 11, 2017.
Tim was born in Port Huron, Michigan on June 1, 1947, to the late Robert and Bernice (Kovach) Sanders.
Tim graduated from Port Huron High School in 1965. He continued his education at the University of Michigan, from which he graduated in 1969 with a degree in Secondary Education. Tim was a secondary educator for 27 years, with the majority of his career spent teaching Math at Algonac High School. During his time at Algonac High School, Tim became the first ever coach of the high school’s varsity hockey team, thus beginning their hockey program. He continued to be a huge support to boys varsity hockey not only in Algonac, but in Marysville Public Schools as well, where he presided over the Marysville Hockey Boosters. Tim played a key role in getting boys hockey funded as a varsity sport by the school district. He also coached his sons’ youth hockey and little league teams for several years. After his retirement in 1996, Tim continued to educate students as a tutor as well as a teacher to homebound students.
Aside from his dedication to education and hockey, Tim was also dedicated to music. He had a great passion for music his entire life. He loved playing bass guitar and had a tremendous talent in doing so. He jammed with other musicians and played in several bands throughout the years, beginning when he was in college. For the last 15 years Tim took great joy and pride in playing with his close friends in their band, Spectrum.
Many other hobbies filled Tim’s days as well, including fishing on the St. Clair River, spending summer days on his pontoon boat, restoring classic cars, especially his 1955 Chevy, taking road trips in his H2 Hummer, and relaxing every October on Belleair Beach in Florida.
Tim is survived by two loving sons, Brad Sanders of Marysville, Tim (Corinne) Sanders, Jr. of Tampa, FL and their mother, Janet Sanders; several extended family and cousins in both the Kovach and (Pugh) Sanders families; and one kitty, Nemo. He was preceded in death by his sister, Laurie Snow.
A memorial service will be held to honor Tim at 3:00 pm on Saturday, January 13, 2018 in the Marysville Funeral Home with visitation beginning at 1:00 pm. The Rev. Max Amstutz will officiate. Burial will be in Riverlawn Cemetery, Marysville.
