Willard G Shimmel

April 10th, 1929 to February 19th, 2018

Willard Glenn Shimmel, 88, of Smiths Creek, MI went to be with his Lord and Savior on February 19, 2018, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born April 10, 1929 in Port Huron to the late Willard and Ida Marie Shimmel. He married the love of his life, Elinor VanCamp, on October 21, 1953 in Goodells.

Mr. Shimmel graduated from Marysville High School class of 1947. He bravely served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War. Willard retired from Detroit Edison Company in 1991 after 37 years of service. He was a member of Colonial Woods Missionary Church.

He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Elinor; daughters, Joanne Lamar, Lee Shimmel and Terri (Michael) Kimmerly; grandchildren, Stephanie Kimmerly, William Lamar, Lauren Kimmerly, Sarah Lamar and Maggie Kimmerly; siblings, Margaret Sprotberry and Donald Shimmel; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by brothers, John, Clifford “Tip” and Gordon Shimmel.

Visitation will be from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Thursday in the Marysville Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 23, 2018 in Colonial Woods Missionary Church with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. The Reverend Phil Whetstone will officiate. Military honors will be conducted under the auspices of the United States Marine Corps.

Burial will be in Caswell Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Willard’s nephews; Dave, Doug, Scott and Matt Shimmel, Paul and Tom Sprotberry.
