Ruth Erma Eagling, 91, of Port Huron, died Wednesday, May 2, 2018.
She was born November 26, 1926 in Wales Township to the late George and Nellie Bishop. She married Gerald Eagling on March 29, 1947 in Port Huron. He died July 9, 2006.
Ruth graduated from Memphis High School and worked at Bell Telephone and later as a cook and waitress at Powers Hamburgers. She was a longtime member of the Port Huron Church of Christ. In her younger years, Ruth sang at many local churches. She belonged to the Salvation Army Golder Agers and was an avid bowler and Tiger’s fan. Family was most important to Ruth and she was an AMAZING mother and grandmother.
She is survived by six children, Diane (Charles) Sopha, Sandy (Michael) Varty, Jill (Ben) McElroy, Robert (Julie) Eagling, Renae (Larry) Smith and Jamie (Ken) Catanzaro; a daughter-in-law, Alexandra Eagling; 29 grandchildren; 56 great grandchildren; two brothers, Jack (Ann) Bishop and Frank (Julie) Bishop; a sister-in-law, Beatrice Bishop; and many nieces, nephews and cousins, including dear cousin, Eliza Bishop. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara Simpson; a son, Jack Eagling; son-in-law, Robert S. Marlow; former son-in-law, Gary Simpson; two sisters and three brothers.
Funeral services will be held at 5 p.m. on Sunday, May 6, 2018 in Port Huron Church of Christ with visitation beginning at 4 p.m. Minister Lamar Black will officiate.
Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery, Port Huron. Pallbearers will be Robert Eagling, Jack Johnathon Eagling, Chuck and Shannon Sopha, Jeremy and Scott Simpson, Travis, Cody and Cord Varty, Robert and Brandon Marlow, Merritt, Clark and Chad Eagling, Brendt and Cameron Smith, Kenny Catanzaro, and Logan McCulloch.
