Yvonne Mitchell
Yvonne Jean Pelton-Mitchell, 90, of Fort Gratiot Township, passed away peacefully at Blue Water Hospice Home on the morning of August 23, 2018. She was always brave when facing many medical issues throughout her life and her death was no exception to that ability. She was blessed to have known the love of two men in her lifetime.
She was born November 19, 1927 in Port Huron to the late Earl and Ethel Wooliever. She graduated from Port Huron High School in 1947 and attended St. Clair County Community College.
Yvonne married Wilson U. “Bud” Pelton on April 10, 1949 and they were blessed with 54 years of marriage. He passed away on March 8, 2004.
Yvonne is survived by eight children, Harriet Adams of Corunna, Ontario, Canada, Frederick (Marlene) Pelton of Green Valley, Arizona, Jennifer (Richard) Wehrwein of South Weber, Utah, Robert E. (Karen) Pelton of Tacoma, Washington, Elizabeth (Hank Trombley) Pelton of Port Huron, Richard (Cindy) Pelton and Denis (Cindy) Pelton, all of Puyallup, Washington, and Daniel (Teri) Pelton of Tonasket, Washington; 13 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; and 8 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; and three brothers, Eugene, Charles and Richard Wooliever.
Yvonne was the leader of a Brownie troop, Guild Girls of First Baptist Church and she and Bud were always active and involved in school activities with their children. Yvonne loved to entertain family and friends and prepared many special dinners for graduations, retirements, birthdays, weddings and all other types of celebrations in life.
In 2009, Yvonne married Jim Mitchell of Walnut Creek, California. They were married for over nine years and shared each other’s company until Jim passed away on March 11, 2018. Yvonne then returned to Port Huron to be lovingly cared for by her daughter, Elizabeth, until her death.
Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held on November 19, 2018.
The family wishes to thank all Yvonne’s wonderful caregivers over the past two years. We would like to extend a special thank you to McLaren Port Huron Hospital and Sanctuary at Mercy Village and a very special expression of gratitude to the staff of Blue Water Hospice for their compassionate care of our mother in her last days on this earth.
