Gertie L Buckner

Gertie Lois Buckner, 100, of Port Huron, died Wednesday, December 12, 2018.

She was born June 1, 1918 in Denton, TN, to the late William and Fanny Mae Mattlock Dreaden. She married Don J. Buckner on April 20, 1946 in Napoleon, OH. He preceded her in death in 1988.

Gertie had been self-employed as a seamstress, had owned a retail fabric store and worked for the U.S. Navy. She was a former Girl Scout leader, a member of First Congregational Church, Port Huron and belonged to the Order of the Eastern Star of Trenton, Michigan. She was proud of having walked over both the Blue Water Bridge and the Mackinac Bridge. Her world always revolved around her family and she moved to Port Huron after her husband’s death to help raise her beloved grandchildren.

She is survived by her daughter, Linda Campbell; two grandchildren, Ian S. (Danielle) Campbell of Macomb and Susan Jean ( Ryan) Kriesch of St. Louis, MO; her first great-grandchild, Annabella Claire Kriesch (born on December 11, 2018); her brother, Reed Dreaden of Waverly, TN; several step-grandchildren, including Bonny and Emily Buckner, Tracy Bennett, Kevin (Kay) Buckner and Leslie Harwood. She was preceded in death by four sisters and three brothers.

Committal services will be held at the Chattanooga National Cemetery, Chattanooga, TN, in the spring.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
