Arthur J "Artie" Bridgwood Jr.
Arthur “Artie” Bridgwood Jr., 73, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, December 12, 2018, surrounded by family at the Blue Water Hospice Home in Marysville.
He was born on December 31, 1944 to Arthur and Marie Bridgwood Sr. in Queens, New York where he was raised as one of twelve siblings, giving his parents a run for their money. On December 23, 1965, he married Janet Paterson in Long Island, New York. They celebrated with a formal church service on March 12, 1966 in St. James Catholic Church, Seaford, New York.
Family and friends could always count on Artie. Kids, grandkids and great-grandkids loved spending time with him as he remained young at heart. Artie had a passion for animals and held his pets close to his heart (and the dinner table). Always quick with his humor and willing to help anyone in need, mailings continue from the hundreds of organizations he donated to.
Artie was a skilled plumber for nearly 50 years with Union #1 and New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA). He worked in New York, Michigan, Canada, and a small stint in Vermont, always working hard to ensure his family had what they needed. He retired in 2011 and moved to Port Huron from Astoria. Arthur was a very humble man who lived life to the fullest. His faith and family always came first, his pets second, and games came third. He was a master at games with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, always coming to the rescue to complete a mission (unless football was on). He enjoyed all sports and loved attending the U.S. Open with family each year. He was a dedicated driver, making trips around the country on a regular basis to see all that he loved.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 53 years, Janet Bridgwood; his children, Thomas (Doris) Helmrich, Darlene (Rudy) Sarino, Vincent (Charlene) Bridgwood, Jennifer Bridgwood, and Marie (Doug) Weinberg; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and his “99 lb.” yellow lab, Lily-girl.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Marie Bridgwood; brothers, Walter Bridgwood, Jerry Bridgwood, and Raymond Bridgwood; and sisters, Marie Bridgwood, and Delores Bridgwood.
The Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, December 17, 2018 in St. Stephen Catholic Church with visitation beginning at 9:30 a.m. The Very Reverend Salvatore Palazzolo, KHS, officiated.
Inurnment will be in the Mt. Hope Cemetery Columbarium, Port Huron.
