Evelyn Elizabeth Burleigh
Evelyn Elizabeth Burleigh, 88, of Port Huron and formerly of Ann Arbor, died Wednesday, December 19, 2018.
She was born May 13, 1930 in Ridgeway, Ontario, Canada to the late Robert and Ann McKinney. She married Peter H. Burleigh on September 10, 1953 in Ridgeway, Ontario.
Evelyn received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Queens University in Kingston, Ontario. She forged her career after raising her children first working at the University of Michigan in the Epidemiology Department, then Warner-Lambert Parke-Davis as a data analyst, and finally as a statistical analyst at STATPROBE in Ann Arbor. Evelyn was an accomplished seamstress, pianist, and an avid tennis player. She enjoyed traveling especially to the Southwest, Europe, and her native Canada. Evelyn lived life to the fullest and was always ready for the next family gathering or adventure. She was tremendously proud of her two children, Shane and Heather, and did everything to ensure their success in life. Evelyn’s favorite times were spent with her family and her grandchildren who were the light of her life.
She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Peter; children, son, P. Shane (Cheri) Burleigh, daughter, Dr. Heather (Joel) Burleigh-Flayer, and grandchildren, Cameron Flayer and Garrett Flayer; dear sister, Roberta Lapp; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her grandchildren, Allison and Cole Burleigh; sister, Anna Mae Steele; and brother-in-law, Reverend Orlen Lapp.
A private memorial service will be held in late January.
Burial will be in Ridgeway Memorial Cemetery in Ridgeway, Ontario.
Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association of Michigan.
