Laurence L Archer
Laurence Leroy Archer, 82, of Croswell, died Saturday, January 5, 2019.
He was born October 27, 1936 to Charlotte and Arthur Archer in a house by the Dairy Queen in Marine City.
Dad’s greatest attribute was his love for Betty Marie Ricketts. They met when Mom was in the Air Force stationed at Selfridge Air National Guard Base. Dad said within a very short time he knew Betty was the one and the rest is history! Little did Dad know that with Mom being the youngest of 12 children he became part of a large extended family!!! Even though Mom has been gone for 40 years, Dad was still known as Uncle Larry. Their love, kindness, and caring has always been a constant in our lives and is a gift we treasure.
Second was his love for his son, Jeffery Kevin Archer, and daughter, Cheryl Lynn Langolf. Dad drove one and a half hours each way to work in Detroit for years so we could grow up in Marine City near family, friends, and good schools. Our mom left much to soon, but Dad continued on, eventually retiring from Barton Malow. He could be seen driving his various Cadillacs to Florida, Oklahoma, and Ohio during his retirement years.
A good chocolate chip cookie, Godiva chocolates, or an ice cream sundae with Hershey’s syrup always brought a smile to his face. Crossword puzzles on the front porch, a spirited game of Uno, or a game of cribbage with Jeff was always fun.
He is survived by his children, Jeffrey (Shannon) Archer and Cheryl (Kirk) Langolf; grandchildren, Janeen and Sam Jones, Jeffrey Archer Jr., Christian and Laura Archer, Abbey Green, and Robert and Colleen Deboer; great grandchildren, Cole, Myles, and Parker Jones and Baby Girl Deboer; a brother, Reverend Robert (Margie) Archer and family; childhood friend and cousin, Jerry Ticknor; and numerous Rickett’s nieces and nephews.
In the end, only two things matter, God and Family. Please cherish your loved ones, hug often and always forgive. We will miss you Dad, but we know you are with Mom again finally after all these years. Love you.
