Edwin Carpenter
Edwin Carpenter, 85, of Fort Gratiot Township, died Wednesday, January 23, 2019.
He was born August 7, 1933 in Memphis to the late Edmund and Lydia Carpenter. He married Suzanne L. Barr on September 25, 1957 in Port Huron. She preceded him in death in 1983.
Edwin served in the Merchant Marines and sailed on the Great Lakes during wartime. He worked as a bricklayer, but truly lived up to his birth name with his love of woodworking and being the neighborhood carpenter. He enjoyed tinkering in his shop, working on cars and other various projects, and riding around in his dune buggy and other recreational vehicles. Edwin was a hunting and fishing enthusiast, spent many years in the great outdoors, and loved to BBQ and eat ribs. He often took his family camping across Michigan and Ontario, Canada. He was never short on sharing his love and enjoyed spending time with his friends and family. His favorite movie genre was the Westerns as it brought all of his favorite pastimes together.
Edwin is survived by his children, Sandra (David) Hietikko and Edwin C. Carpenter; grandchildren, Tayler Carpenter, and Tricia and Kayla Campbell. He was preceded in death by his sister and brother-in-law, Myrtle (Ed) Kolman; niece, Robin Kolman; and companion, Mary.
Private family services will be held. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery. Pallbearers will be David Hietikko, Brandon Jaksim, Charles Lashbrook, Arnold Kessel, Albert Kessel and Arnold Kessel Jr. A gathering for friends and family will be held this summer.
Memorials may be made to Grace Hospice.
