Donald J Evans
Donald Joseph Evans, 91, of Marysville, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, January 25, 2019 in Lakeland, Florida.
He was born August 7, 1927 in Kimball Township to the late William E. and Grace Evans Sr. He married Patricia L. Shell February 24, 1951 in Croswell.
Don was employed in marketing with DTE Energy for 39 years prior to his retirement in 1988. He served in the Pacific Theatre of Operation with the U.S. Navy during World War II. Don attended Western Michigan University. He was a member of Marysville United Methodist Church where he ushered, taught Sunday school and served on the Board. He was a member of Evergreen Masonic Lodge #9 in St. Clair.
A lifelong scuba diver, Don became a Scuba Diving Instructor, certified by the National Association of Underwater Instructors as one of the first recreational diving instructors in the world, with certification number 10. From 1960-1987 he taught over 1000 students in the Blue Water Area. He also served as the Chief Diver for the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Department Marine Rescue and Recovery Team for 25 years. He was also an Eagle Scout, Scout Master of Troop #298, Huron Lightship volunteer, Red Cross Water Safety Instructor and enjoyed most water sports as well as golf.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Patsy; three children, Timothy (Lou Ann) Evans, Mark (Jennifer) Evans and Julianne (Stephen) Christy; grandchildren, Shay (Richard) Jakacki, Marklyn (Nick) Behling, Megan (Jeffrey) Stencel, Alyson, Valerie and Lauren Evans; great grandchildren, Nora, Donald, Max, Owen, Wyatt, Evie, Logan, Emma, Cameron, and Zoe; sister, Nancy (Leonard Jones) Evans; brother-in-law, Bill (Joan) Shell; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother and sister-in-law, William and Ila Mae Evans, sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and William Rossow
Visitation will be 2-5 and 6-9 p.m. Friday February 1, 2019 in the Marysville Funeral Home. A Masonic Memorial Service will be held at 8 p.m.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 2, 2019 in Marysville United Methodist Church with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. The Rev. Barbara Welbaum will officiate. Military honors will be conducted under the auspices of the U.S. Navy and the St. Clair County Allied Veterans Honor Guard.
Interment will be in the Riverlawn Cemetery Columbarium.
Memorial contributions may be made to Marysville United Methodist Church, Huron Lightship Museum or St. Clair County Dive Team Auxiliary.
