Joseph Frank Roehl, DVM, 68, a lifelong resident of Kimball Township, died unexpectedly Friday, January 25, 2019 as the result of a farm accident.
He was born August 22, 1950 in St. Clair to the late Harry C. and Maryellen Roehl. He married Kathryn Simons on October 8, 1977 in the Neuman Center, Port Huron.
Joe graduated from Marysville High School in 1968 and the Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1973. He established Wadhams Road Animal Clinic in January of 1974 and worked there with his wife until his retirement in 1996. The highlight of Dr. Joe’s retirement was spending 5 summers as the veterinarian for Mackinac Island Carriage Tours on Mackinac Island. Joe was a lifelong farmer. He was a longtime member of St. Christopher Catholic Church where he served in music ministry. He was also very active in the Marysville Rotary Club, Schubert Male Chorus, and the Marysville Knights of Columbus Council 9526.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Kathryn Simons, DVM; son and daughter-in-law, Cameron J. Roehl and Kim DeLand; brothers, Charles (Evelyn) Roehl, Harry (Ann) Roehl, and Tom (Sandra) Roehl; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 6- 9 p.m. and Thursday from 2-5 and 6-9 p.m. in the Marysville Funeral Home. A Knights of Columbus Rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. Thursday.
Dr. Roehl will lie in state at St. Christopher Catholic Church on Friday, February 1, 2019 from 10 a.m. until the time of the Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. The Reverend James Arwady will officiate.
Burial will be in Riverlawn Cemetery, Marysville.
Memorials may be made to St. Christopher Catholic Church, the Schubert Male Chorus, or the Marysville Viking Regiment Band Boosters.
