Sherri Coggins Volk
Sherri Coggins Volk, 64, of Marysville, died Monday, May 25, 2020 after a courageous battle with melanoma.
She was born April 17, 1956 in Port Huron to Carol and the late Charles R. “Chuck” Coggins. She married Joseph E. Volk on January 22, 1978 in Chesterfield Township. Joe died December 7, 2009.
Sherri was a 1974 graduate of Marysville High School and a 1976 graduate of SC4, working as a legal secretary and in the construction industry for several years. The Volk family moved south after Joe’s retirement and Sherri loved her new community in North Carolina. She owned and operated Sherri’s Sign Shop in Edenton, N.C. and was a talented graphic artist and designer. She was very active in American Legion Post # 40, was a past president of the Lions Club of Rocky Hock, N.C. and served as treasurer of Chowan County Regional Fair in Edenton.
She is survived by her beloved son, Brian Volk; step-sons, Dennis Schull and Gary Volk; step-daughter, Denise (Volk) Henderson; her mother, Carol Coggins; two sisters, Dawn (Paul) Mosteller and Lora (Bruce) McFadden; a brother, Charles R. “Mike” (Kim) Coggins II; nephews, Charles R. Coggins III, Kyle (Manda) Coggins and Bruce (Sarah) McFadden II; niece, Danielle (Nate) McFadden; uncles, Edward Klaas II and Dennis Klaas; aunt, Janet (Dale) Hoy; and many cousins. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Thomas and Leila Coggins and Edward and Lillian Klaas, a step-son, Greg Schull and several aunts and uncles.
Private family services will be held June 1, 2020. A service in North Carolina is planned later this summer.
