Carol Russell Whiting, 72, of Port Huron, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 30, 2020 at home with the love of her family surrounding her.
Carol was born January 11, 1948 in Sandusky, Michigan. She was the oldest child to the late Clare and Shirley Russell, and happily spent her childhood on the family farm in Deckerville. After graduating from Deckerville Community Schools, Class of 1966, Carol went on to earn her Associates of Arts from St. Clair County Community College in 1972.
Carol put her heart and soul into everything she did. She was a dedicated member of the Port Huron Host Lions, helping to raise money and awareness for those with visual impairments in our community. She also took on the role of Poll Worker, assisting voters and counting ballots on numerous Election Days. Most notably, Carol spent 22 years as a Photo Technician for Walmart. She was a loyal employee and brought a smile to her customers and coworkers each and every day.
Faith and friendship were extremely important to Carol. Her close friendships brought her great joy. She was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church and served on the Mary Martha Guild. We are comforted in knowing that she is now in the loving arms of the Lord.
Above all, family was everything to Carol. She had so much pride for her children and grandchildren and loved them all immensely. She will be deeply missed by her four children Timothy (Kellie) Whiting, Tracy Whiting (Terry Wright), Daniel Smafield (Angela Martinez Lopez) and Deanna (Jarred) Veal; as well as her siblings Thomas (Karin) Russell, Marsha Pozsgay and Richard Russell. She was also the proudest Grammy to her beloved grandchildren Leighanne Crawford, Faith Whiting, Liam Veal and Eli Veal. Carol was preceded in death by her brother-in-law, Michael Pozsgay.
Visitation will be from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Sunday, December 6, 2020 in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home. A limited number of people will be allowed in at a time. Please wear a mask for the safety and comfort of others.
Funeral services will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church on Monday, December 7, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. Dr. Mark Madson will officiate. Following the service, Carol will be laid to rest at Lakeside Cemetery in Port Huron.
