Obituary

Merle Telford Rushton, 92, of Port St. Lucie, FL, formerly of Port Huron, died peacefully at home June 11, 2021.

He was born March 9, 1929 in Deckerville to the late Telford and Mabel Rushton.

Merle served in the United States Army as a Tech Sergeant during the Korean War. He received the Sharpshooter Medal, National Defense Medal and the United Nations Medal. He was employed with Vlassic Foods for many years before his retirement. He then worked as a security guard in Florida for 15 years before retiring again. He enjoyed playing guitar, gardening, traveling and being with his family.

He is survived by his wife, Ileen; four daughters, Judy (Robert) Richards, Shirley (Del) Stevens, Marilyn Stephens and Jennifer (Scott) Rouse; 14 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; and a sister, Patricia (Robert) Koncyk. He was preceded in death by a son, Joseph Rushton; four sisters, Eva Gerrow, Norma Robinson, Marie Morley and Kathryn Rushton; and five brothers, Eugene, Oramel and Dale Rushton and George and Johnny Kolman

Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, June 17, 2021 in Caswell Cemetery, Kimball Township. Military honors will be conducted under the auspices of the United States Army and the St. Clair County Allied Veterans Honor Guard.
