Obituary

Robert L. “Bob” Smith, 79, of Marysville, died unexpectedly on Sunday, August 1, 2021 in his home.

He was born March 31, 1942 in St. Clair to the late Lawrence and Edna Smith. He married Dorothy Neuman on January 8, 1966 in St. Martin Lutheran Church, Port Huron. She died March 17, 2019.

Bob graduated from Marysville High School in 1960. He retired from Petitpren Inc. after 35 years. He also worked for the Marysville Golf Course for over 15 years and was a volunteer firefighter.

Bob always looked forward to playing Euchre on Tuesdays and meeting longtime friends for coffee. He coached many years with the Port Huron Minor Hockey Association, coaching his son, grandson and several other teams. He also coached many Marysville baseball teams, including coaching his son’s teams and daughter’s all-star softball team. Bob had a big heart and could always be found helping wherever needed. Bob’s greatest pleasure was spending time with his family, especially his grandkids. He loved taking care of his yard and was known in the neighborhood as the Mayor of Illinois Street.

He is survived by two children, Sallie (Bryan) Matthews and Bobby (Kathleen) Smith; three grandchildren, Brandon Parrish, Sean Smith and Amelia Smith; a sister, Mary Ann (Hank) Laber; special cousin, Dell Bauslaugh (Bill Schulz); his dog, Geno; and several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation will be 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Sunday August 15, 2021 in the Marysville Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 16, 2021 in the Marysville Funeral Home. The Reverend Roxie Davis, of First Presbyterian Church, Port Huron will officiate.

Burial will be in Riverlawn Cemetery, Marysville. Pallbearers will be Brandon Parrish, Sean Smith, Rich Mallwitz, Glen Stone, David Hutchinson, Steve McCartney and Charlie Andrews.
