Obituary

Sharon Louise Bender, 74, of Grand Prairie, Texas, formerly of Port Huron, died Tuesday, August 10, 2021

She was born December 10, 1946 in Detroit to the late Hamilton and Louise Benham.

Mrs. Bender was a City Planner with the City of Port Huron. She was a lifelong volunteer at Holy Trinity Parish, serving on many councils and commissions through the years. Her love for children was evident as a Sunday School teacher and teen mentor. She had great empathy for the poor, serving with St. Vincent de Paul Society and many other community action groups, including Strangers No Longer and National Night Out. Her willingness to help in any area was an awesome gift to the parish. Sharon was also an active volunteer with the Port Huron Museum, the International Symphony and the Girl Scouts. She received the Spirit of Port Huron Cultural Award in 1989 and the Civic Award in 2004.

She is survived by two daughters, Leslie (Michael) Bender Jutzi and Judith (John III) Reaves; three grandchildren, Rebecca Bender Jutzi, Eternity Reaves and Amorrah Reaves; three sisters, Carolyn (Al) Jones, Linda Jordan-Preston and Muqarrabah Miyzaan nee Judith Benham Fernandez; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday, September 6, 2021 in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home. A Vigil Service will be held at 7 p.m.

The Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, September 7, 2021 in Holy Trinity Parish St. Joseph Catholic Church. The Reverend Bradley Forintos will officiate.

Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Port Huron.
