Mary Teresa "Aunt Mary" Roll

Mary Teresa “Aunt Mary” Roll, 91, of Fort Gratiot, died Tuesday, October 12, 2021.

She was born March 30, 1930 in Detroit.

Mary graduated from St. Paul’s Catholic High School in Owosso in 1949. She worked for Great Scott, which eventually became Kroger, where she retired from 1996. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church. Aunt Mary was a feisty spitfire who loved the Tigers & Red Wings, gardening and old-time country music. She enjoyed any family activity, especially getting together for the holidays and attending her nieces’ and nephews’ events. She was famous for her chocolate chip cookies and bright red lipstick.

She is survived by three siblings, Janet Benson, Roselynn “Rose” (Clayton “Bud”) Shagena and Peter (Michelle) Roll; sister-in-law, Barbara Roll; nieces and nephews, Christy (Lee) Tremp, Kelly (Dave) Harrington, Lea (David) Stoyka, Virginia Benson, Kimberly (Kirk) Kennedy, Dana (Kenneth) Kozlowski, Joseph (Tonia) Roll and Mark (Carla) Roll; many great nieces and great nephews, including Marissa and Conner Stager who were very dear to her; and four great great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her birth parents, Arthur and Mary Roll; her beloved stepmother, Jennie (Paul) Caywood; a brother, Joseph Roll; and a brother-in-law, Douglas Benson.

The Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 23, 2021 in St. Mary Catholic Church. The Reverend Zbigniew Zomerfeld will officiate.
