Roderick A. "Al" Sloan
Roderick Allen “Al” Sloan, 81, of Smiths Creek, died Sunday, November 14, 2021.
He was born November 28, 1939 in Port Huron to the late Kenneth and Frances Sloan. He married Kathy Fleming on November 25, 1978.
Al was employed with Iron Worker Local #25 for over 50 years. He was a member of Blue Water Aerie #3702 Fraternal Order of Eagles and Smiths Creek Lodge #491 F. & A.M. He enjoyed horse pulling, camping, rodeos, drag racing and going to Florida. He loved spending time with his family and friends and his dog, Riley.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Kathy, 4 children, Christine (Ken) Brown, Robert Sloan, Rhonda (Greg) Bringard and John (Sue) Houle; daughter-in-law, Jackie Houle; 13 grandchildren, Roderick Sloan, Tara Brown, Matt Bringard, Scarlet Bringard, Olivia Bringard, Ashley (Chris) Surline, John Houle Jr., Tevin Houle, Robert Houle, Mitchell Houle, Haley Houle, Jason (Morgan) Hustek and J.C. Lynn (Joe) Landschoot; 3 great grandchildren, Eli Wargo, Weston Surline and Graison Surline; sister, Grace (Tom) Thompson; brother, Angus (JoAnne) Sloan; many nieces and nephews; and three special friends, Elmer Gamble, Tim Knisley and Brian Wolf. He was preceded in death by his son, Tim Houle; sisters, Charlotte Williams and Donna Moutoux; and brothers, Steven “Jake” Sloan, Samuel W. Sloan and Robert Sloan.
A celebration of life will be held from 1-6 p.m. Saturday, December 11, 2021 in the Blue Water Aerie #3702 Fraternal Order of Eagles, 2645 Howard St., Port Huron.
