Robert C Collins

March 1st, 1940 to November 22nd, 2021
Robert Charles “Bob” Collins, 81, of Fort Gratiot, died Monday, November 22, 2021. He was born March 1, 1940 in Port Huron Township to the late Ray C. and Ivah M. Collins. He married Kay Ann Allen on February 3, 1962 in Port Huron. She preceded him in death on September 28, 2017. As a young man, Bob worked for the local conservation district and as a surveyor for the Michigan State Highway Department. He was later employed as a machinist and Class A Mechanic with Anker Holth, Consumers Power, and Johnson Hydraulics, working two jobs most of his life. He enjoyed camping and canoeing up north with his family and Scout Troop 169, deer hunting, especially in the cedar swamps near Onaway, exploring old places, gardening, canning, cooking, and collecting old cookbooks. Bob was a kind, dependable, and self-reliant man who provided a stable home. He could make almost anything and derived great satisfaction from making use of discarded materials. Bob was meticulous but encouraged simplicity in living and faith. He is survived by his son, William “Bill” (Cheryl) Collins; sister, Beverly Strieter; nephews and niece, Larry (Joyce) Strieter, Gary (Sarah) Strieter, Mark Strieter, and Lisa (Paul) Round; and several great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Kay; son, Daniel Collins; daughter, Pamela Kent; brother-in-law, Gordon Strieter; and niece, Sarah Strieter. Family and friends may gather in the Pollock-Randall Funeral Home parking lot at 12:00 noon on Wednesday, December 1, 2021 for a procession to Woodland Cemetery in Port Huron Township where a graveside committal service will take place at 12:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Humane Society of St. Clair County / SNAP.
