Linda Anderson

September 17th, 1946 to March 1st, 2022

Linda Southouse Anderson, 75, of Fort Gratiot, passed away peacefully on Tuesday March 1, 2022 after prolonged Alzheimer’s.

She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Dr. Richard T. Anderson, M.D., her sister, Mary Jane Southouse Fast of Fairfield, Connecticut, her two daughters, Christina Anderson Gibson (Jason) of Ft. Gratiot and Katherine Noel Anderson (Joseph Furtek) of Bristow, Virginia; and her grandchildren, William, Cassandra, James and Graham Gibson.

She was born September 17, 1946 in Norwich, Connecticut, as the first daughter of James W. Southouse and Virginia Belle Austin. She was a graduate of Andrew Warde High School class of 1964, Fairfield, Connecticut, and the University of Bridgeport where she completed a Bachelor’s of Art.

Linda began teaching art in Connecticut and later in New Orleans and Washington D.C. where she moved with her husband Richard during his medical training and service in the Army. After military service they moved to Peoria, Illinois where Linda ran Chez Nous, a French bistro, and later purchased a smocking sewing shop. Soon thereafter she expanded the business and founded Sew Elegant Quilt Shoppe where she sold fabrics, notions, and sewing machines. She also offered and taught quilting and sewing classes. Linda continued Sew Elegant after a move to the Port Huron area. The shop is renowned for having a large collection of fabrics.

Linda was raised Episcopalian, and later joined the Presbyterian Church. She was active in the church, becoming an ordained elder and serving on session. Linda also traveled the world with her family.

Artist, chef, quilter, business woman, devoted wife and loving mother, Linda shared her talents, passions and love with everyone she met. She will be greatly missed.

In honor of her creative talents, the family will be hosting a quilt show of her work over the years at the Sew Elegant Quilt Shoppe, 3909 Pine Grove Ave., Ft. Gratiot on Saturday March 19, 2022 from 1 to 3 p.m.

The family prefers that memorials be sent to Visiting Nurses Association and Bluewater Hospice at 3403 Lapeer Rd., Suite B101, Port Huron MI 48060.
